Romania started the chairmanship in the EU Council

Romania will head the EU for 6 months.

From 1 January this year, Romania has begun the presidency of the Council of the European Union.

On it informs edition of DW, indicating that this is the first presidency of Romania after accession to the EU in 2007. The country will occupy the post of honor and will lead the EU Council for six months.

As previously reported, the President of Romania Klaus Iohannis said on the background of the contradictions with the social Democrats in the government that the country is not ready to lead the Council of the European Union.

Thus, on 10 November 2018, the Romanian Minister of the European Union resigned, provoking a situation that threatened to disrupt the preparatory process of the country to accept the presidency of the Council of the European Union in January this year.
